More Ryde Treasures Some treasures associated with Ryde in the past have been saved for posterity. The following two images show programmes for the Theatre Royal in Ryde, which are printed on silk! The first is from November 1857, and heralds the arrival in Ryde of Lady Elizabeth Clifford – ‘The Little Treasure’! The manager of the theatre is listed as Mr C P Plunkett, at 5 Colonnade, Ryde. The whole is printed by Mr Butler, of the Isle of Wight Observer Office.

The next dates from October 12, 1860. It advertises a ‘Grand Military and Local Amateur Performance in aid of the Isle of Wight Infirmary, comprising Still Waters Run Deep, and Wonderful Woman. It will include a selection by the Ryde Rifle Volunteer Band.
