December 31, 2016 – The Christmas Raffle has sold over 200 tickets and the winners were Colin Way – 1st prize, ticket number 00183, Carole Jones – 2nd prize, ticket number 00004, and Mark Brading – 3rd prize, ticket number 00113 and raised £135 for the HRS Fund.
December 29, 2016 – The quiz attracted over 40 quizzers and raised £167 for the HRS Fund.
November 27, 2016 – The Collectors Fair, held on Sunday at the Masonic Hall in John Street, raised £230 for the HRS Fund.
November 24, 2016 – The quiz attracted over 40 quizzers and raised around £120 for the HRS Fund.
November 16, 2016 – A captivating and well documented presentation was given by Adrian Searle about the 1943 German raid on the Isle of Wight. More details that were revealed in front of over 40 people can be found in his recently launched book “Churchill’s Last Wartime Secret”. The event has raised £248 –Tickets sold at the Arcade £65, tickets sold on the night £133 and £50 from raffle takings. Thanks to Brian, David, Alan and Ron for their effort.
October 27, 2016 – The quiz attracted 43 quizzers and after paying Yelf’s £30 and supplying the £10 prize we still made £151. Thanks to Alan Brading who raised £62 with the raffle and to all members and guests.
September 25, 2016 – The Collectors’ Fair raised a grand total of £205.25 (Stallholders: £71.77,
Entrance donations: £76.08, Refreshments: £57.40), after all expenses of nearly £150 (room hire, advertising, etc.). Many thanks (in reverse alphabetical order!) to Pauline, Molly, John, Jill, Jerry, Derek and Alan for all your hard work, and being cheerful.
September 21, 2016 – An entertaining presentation was given by Ray Allen, ‘Some mothers do’ave them‘, raising tonight from ticket sales/raffle £334 for HRS funds. Thanks Alan and Derek for the raffle effort.
July 21, 2016 – Brian Harris and David Newman were given a talk at the Lions Centre in Lake to East Wight Seniors about early forms of transport, rasing £25 donation for HRS funds.
July 20, 2016 – A very well documented presentation about the First Life Boat and the Tyne Pilots was given by Mike North in front of over 2o people that raised £140 for the HRS fund.
May 18, 2016 – A well received presentation was given by Angela Buckley, the author of “The Real Sherlock Holmes” and recently published “Amelia Dyer and the baby farm murders”, the first in a new historical true crime series, Victorian Supersleuth Investigates. The author has “thrilled” an audience of over 50 with crime stories about “Darkest Ryde”, raising £273 for Historic Ryde Society fund. Special thanks to Diana for the organisation and to all the volunteers involved.
April 28, 2016 – The quiz attracted 40 people and raised over £180 for the HRS fund.
March 31, 2016 – The quiz attracted 61 people and raised over £250 for the HRS fund. Many thanks to Tony, Linda, Liz and other volunteers for giving their time to make this a hugely successful event!
March 16, 2016 – A presentation was given by John Hannam in front of an audience of over 50. Another successful event organised by Diana that raised in excess of £200 for the HRS fund.
March 6, 2016 – The Collectors’ Fair – Thanks to Jerry for his organisation and all the volunteers who gave up their time for the event. £105 was raised for the HRS fund.
February 25, 2016 – The Quiz – Over 50 attended the February quiz this evening and raised just over £200 for the Ice Well fund.
February 7, 2016 – Dinosaur Isle in Sandown organised a free admission event for parents and children and HRS had a display of many items dug up or found by metal detectors, etc. that the children were invited to pick up and examine.
January 20, 2016 – A presentation about life in Ryde during the WWI was given by IW Heritage Service Manager, Richard Smout, to an audience of over 40, raising £250 for the Ryde Heritage Centre. Thanks to all the volunteers involved.
