‘Giving Ryde’s Past to the Future’

Historic Ryde Society Quiz Night Thursday 28 September 2023 at Yelf's Hotel, at 7p.m. for 7.30pm.

John I know a little maid,
And indeed I am afraid
That her bonny laughing face
And her figure full of grace
Cheeks so red and hair of gold
Stay! I can a tale unfold.
How thou loved this little maid
Tho’ with thy fond heart she’s played.
Yet Oh! foolish, foolish man
That but helps the flame to fan.
Men must follow if we fly
Says love with a laughing eye.
So she scorned your loving glances
Led you many pretty dances,
In the net you fell, Oh! dear,
I would warn you to beware.

If bright lasses you may see
Have the courage swift to flee,
Ere the truant with his dart
Pierce and lacerate your heart.
