Ryde Town and Borough Council news from the past…..see what were the major issues of the day!
The Ryde Town Act of 1829 appointed a body of Commissioners to oversee the running of Ryde. The criterion for this office, (in 1855, at least), being the possession of property in the town worth £1000. The images show the first page of the Act, dated May, 1829, and the list of Commissioners appointed at the time. A copy of the full Act can be consulted at Ryde District Heritage Centre.
