Sir Augustus Clifford, bart., entertained at dinner on Saturday last, at his residence, Westfield, a large circle, including Count Stroganoff, Lord and Lady Burghley, Sir Thomas and Lady Cochrane, Hon Spencer Lyttleton, Mr Farquhar, &c.

And on Wednesday, a large party at luncheon, consisting of Count and Countess Stroganoff, Lady Emily and Misses Ponsonby, the Hon Charles and Mrs Cust and Miss Cust, Mr Sanderson, Mr King, Mr Browne, &c.

Lady Douglas entertained a numerous company at a ball and supper on Tuesday evening, at her residence, 6 Belvedere-street. Jones’s band attended.

Sir Henry and Lady Oglander entertained a large and fashionable party at their seat, at Nunwell, on Thursday afternoon. Many of whom afterwards patronised the theatre.

TEETOTALISM – the teetotallers of this town have been carrying on a very active crusade against intemperance of late, but with what success we know not. During the past week a Mr Smith has been lecturing at the Victoria Rooms, upon the chemical aspect of the question; taking malt liquors on Tuesday evening, and wine on Wednesday. There was also a tea meeting on Wednesday afternoon, but the attendance was very meagre.
