The Queen in Ryde June 2, 1855
The Queen, accompanied by the Princess Hohenlohe, drove through several of our principal streets on Tuesday last. Of course no demonstration was made, as the visit was strictly private. We noticed one or two very silly persons, however, who would obtrude themselves upon their Royal attention, and their vanity was flattered by gracious bows.
THE SEASON – Ryde remains most miserably dull, although there are a few symptoms of the coming season. Indeed, there is no event in the locality scarcely worth recording. To use a paradox, there is nothing moving, but stagnation; and until the weather greatly improves we anticipate no change for the better.
