Henry Knight Letters January 1882

Arcade, Ryde, January 18th 1882
To the Editor of the Isle of Wight Times
Dear Sir, -The Town Clerk acting on the instructions of someone, but who, he declines to say, has refused to allow me to see any papers, books, documents or letters, relating to the Town affairs, except the minute book. The motive is obvious; they wish to cast every obstacle in the way of any independent member of the Council desirous of doing his duty towards the ratepayers in an open, honest, and impartial manner.
I am, Sir, yours truly,
HENRY KNIGHT
